A CONCERNED Largs businesswoman is doing her bit to promote companies not visible on the high street as the town looks to recover from coronavirus lockdown.

Helen Rumbold, who has plied her trade from home as ‘Housework by Helen’ for more than ten years, has created a Facebook page to throw light on home-based businesses in their time of need.

The 63-year-old says she got her inspiration from the new ‘Largs Shopping’ page, which was set up by Little Threads owner Rosemary Giovino to promote high street businesses.

She said: “It was Rosemary that inspired me, I contacted her and asked if home operated business could be included in her ‘Largs Shopping’ page but it was just for high street businesses.

“I understood that so I thought about setting up a page specifically for people who are working out of their houses.

“It’s growing slowly but hopefully it will get bigger, it’s great that lockdown is easing and restrictions are less, but the home businesses need to be picking up as well.

“Rosemary’s page was a great idea but we need to be doing something for people who don’t have a voice.”

Helen says it is more important than ever that locals and tourists support businesses right across the North Coast to combat the effects of the pandemic.

She said: “I don’t know what kind of hit Largs has taken but I dread to imagine how bad it has been."
