THE curious sight of eight dead fish on Largs shore was spotted by beachgoers on Tuesday morning to the north of the town.
The mystery was spotted by passers-by at the stretch of coastline between the former RNLI station and Aubery Crescent on Tuesday.
Local marine biologist David Nairn says it is difficult to tell what the cause of death could be.
He said: "They look like possibly dog fish from the photograph. They could have been killed by discharge from a fishing boat but it is difficult to tell."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said:
“We have not received any reports of a fish kill on Largs shore.
“While warm weather can impact fish by reducing the oxygen levels in water, anyone concerned about a pollution incident can notify SEPA 24 hours a day at www.sepa.org.uk/report or by calling the SEPA Pollution Hotline on 0800 80 70 60. Additional detail is also helpful when reporting, including any odours, colours in the water, or a description of any substance in the water that may be present as a result of pollution.”
