A body was found in the sea on Tuesday morning amid tragic circumstances.
Largs lifeboat were called out to the sad incident, while the CalMac ferry, MV Argyll, which serves the Wemyss Bay to Rothesay route, also assisted.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a 74-year-old man found in the water near Port Bannatyne on Bute shortly after 9am on Tuesday, 19 October.
“Police attended along with partners from HM Coastguard and the RNLI.
“The death is being treated as unexplained, though there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
A Largs Lifeboat spokesperson said: " Largs RNLI were tasked to an incident in Kames Bay shortly after 9am
"After working alongside other agencies, the lifeboat returned at 10.45am and was made ready for service once again."
