I AM compelled to express my deep frustration regarding the glaring absence of suitable facilities - or lack of any facilities - for many activities in Largs, particularly a proper sauna.

This issue is not merely a matter of convenience; it is a fundamental health oversight that is depriving our community of essential wellness benefits.

It is unacceptable that residents of Largs are being denied access to a facility that is proven to significantly enhance physical and mental health.

A properly designed sauna, complete with breath-taking views, is not a luxury - it is a necessity for promoting well-being.

The health benefits associated with regular sauna use are well-documented, including improved cardiovascular function, stress reduction, and accelerated recovery from physical exertion. Furthermore, combining sauna use with cold water therapy - such as a cold plunge pool or access to cold water - is considered best practice and enhances the overall benefits.

By neglecting this vital service, the council is showing a remarkable lack of regard and basic understanding in prioritizing the health and well-being of its constituents.

Currently, we have the facilities at Vikingar, which can only be described as tired, drab, and dreary. While the gym is okay, it is far too small for its current usage.

There needs to be extensive investment in the gym, sauna, and dining facilities to create a space that truly serves the community.

The so-called "Vikingar experience" primarily caters to out-of-town school trips and should have been disbanded a long time ago, as it no longer serves a purpose for locals. With such a vital service, it needs to work for residents first and foremost.

The current sauna and steam room have been described as smelling, and the paint is falling off the walls in many areas.

This venue has become a shadow of its potential, underutilized by the local community due to its lack of modern amenities and cleanliness.

Furthermore, the absence of dining options after swimming - relying solely on vending machines - is a disgrace and a missed opportunity to enhance the overall experience for visitors.

I urge you to consider the overall vibe of the place, exemplified by the dead artificial plant - how do you even kill a faux plant?

Largs deserves better than this blatant disregard for community needs.

Scandinavian countries have long recognized the immense value of saunas, integrating them into their cultural and health practices. There is no reason why we should not implement similar initiatives here in Scotland.

In fact, there should be free pop-up saunas all over the country, not just in Largs, to ensure that everyone has access to these essential health benefits.

Ultimately, Largs deserves access to these vital services. The community should not have to settle for subpar facilities that fail to meet their needs.

It is imperative that the council takes immediate action to address these shortcomings and provide the residents of Largs with the quality wellness facilities they rightfully deserve.
