North Ayrshire Family History Society hold regular meetings in Largs Library on the second Tuesday of each month . The meetings start at 7.30 pm where speakers give talks on a variety of subjects and are followed by a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

The first meeting will take place on Tuesday 13 September and will be a talk by author and school teacher Dane Love on his latest book entitled ‘Lost Villages of Ayrshire’. Other talks this session will include ‘My ancestors got into trouble!’ ‘Hairstyles through the ages’ ‘Exploring oral history in the community’ ‘The story of the Christmas Carol’ ‘Next train for Largs’ ‘Ayrshire Placenames’ and ‘The Union of the Parliaments’

They also hold regular workshops in Largs Library on Thursday afternoons from 2.30 -4.30 where members of the group are on hand to help people starting to research their family tree. More experienced researchers can also benefit from these sessions finding that a fresh pair of eyes can sometimes help solve a problem .

The society have also planned various outings to The Burns Centre in Kilmarnock, The Heritage Centre in Saltcoats, The Carnegie Library in Ayr, a joint meeting with the other Family History Societies in Ayrshire and a meeting with Largs Historical Society.

New members will be given a warm welcome on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Membership costs £12, which covers the cost for hire of the library, speakers’ expenses and access to our resources which are used for family history research and production of our Family History Society Journal. The new session 2016/2017 looks like it is going to be a busy one!
