The first ever Largs community gala show has received a resounding round of applause.

An audience which almost filled Barrfields Pavilion Theatre on Saturday, October 1 enjoyed a night of complete local talent in a fund-raising evening for BUG, the voluntary users' group.

About 40 members of Largs Youth Theatre, which takes in primary and secondary pupils, laid on a sparkling opening in front of a colourful star cloth, with song and dance numbers including the popular Mathilde musical.

BUG member Drew Cochrane introduced the acts with his own Largs Players club providing the comedy sketches which featured Kirsty Strahan, Jon Wilkin and George Whitestone performing 'The Carol Police' and 'Triangles' which was a version of Still Game in Largs.

One of the most appreciated acts of the night saw Largs Operatic Society stage a musical quiz which had some of their soloists such as Morag Robertson, James Thomson, Ian McDonald, Rachel Scott and Robbie Quinn with chorus belting out songs from hit shows like Evita and Oklahoma.

The Alan Howie Trio changed the mood music at the start of the second half with some self-penned numbers and the grand finale was presented by Craig Smith's contemporary choir, The Upbeats who ranged from Country and Western to pop classics, featuring soloists backed by a 30-strong group.

Barrfields Users' Group chairman Ryan Moir and Drew Cochrane produced the gala with Stuart McKinnon and Calum Little on sound and lights, stage managed by Sandy Cunningham and David Page.

An online survey has informed the BUG group, who work with KA Leisure, on developing and improving the theatre that the show could become an annual event. It is expected that several thousand pounds will now go into further enhancement of the 80 years old Barrfields theatre.
