THIS weekend you can relive a little of Ayrshire's past if you visit the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre at Dunaskin near Ayr on Sunday, July 16 and again on Monday, July 17.

The centre is operated by the unpaid volunteers of the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group.

Visitors often come from far and wide. This weekend, the Centre will welcome back a group from Bristol who were last at the Ayrshire railway musem ten years ago

Each Sunday until the end of August the centre is open from 11am to 4.30pm and offers visitors short hurls in a brake van.

There will be more than steam on offer on Monday, thanks to East Ayrshire Leisure Trust countryside Rangers.

You will be able to join the countryside rangers to explore the natural beauty of the area around the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre. You will be able to take a closer look at the local wildlife. This free event is suitable for young families even with buggies, but make sure you have suitable footwear.

If interested meet at the railway visitor centre at 1pm. Walks last about one hour. Places are limited so it's first come, first served.

The Dunaskin site is important to Ayrshire history. Ironstone and coal mining was started here by the Dalmellington Iron Company in 1848 and coal production continued at various pits in the area until 1978.
