North Ayrshire’s newest festival will be an annual event after more than 1000 people turned out to support everything from concerts to art exhibitions.
The first ever Vertex Festival brought music, arts and events to West Kilbride over ten days and five venues.
Around 100 performers and artists took part in performances, shows and events.
The festival came to a climax with a spectacular Gothic Ball in the Barony Centre to mark Hallowe’en.
Vertex organisers say the festival will be back, bigger and better next year with a series of individual events also in the pipeline.
The second week of the festival saw a comedy night at the Bowling Club, art exhibition at the Barony with local artists Lucy Russell and Dai-An Craig, a pop-up cinema, a Scottish Wildlife Trust science in nature session, jazz concert from Music in West Kilbride and a session from Village Folk in the King’s Arms.
One of the Festival’s organisers, Mary Cahill of Gosh Creative, said that the success wouldn’t have been possible without volunteers and the support of the community.
Mary, who also helps co-ordinate the village’s Yuletide Night, said: “The support for Vertex has been fantastic. There are loads of talented people in the village and some great venues.
“We wanted to provide a platform for people to share their talent and for the community to get together and perhaps experience something new. We want to thank all the volunteers who gave their time and everyone from the community who came out to support events.
The festival was made possible thanks to funding from May Lockhart Trust; Magnox Socio-Economic Scheme; North Ayrshire Council (Nurturing Excellence) and West Kilbride Community Trust.
