A body was found in the sea on Monday morning in tragic circumstances.
Members of the public raised the alarm and alerted the emergency services.
The body was lifted out of the sea shortly after 7.15am.
Inspector Colin Convery said: “I can confirm that a body has been removed from the sea near to the RNLI slip on Largs Promenade this morning.
“A call was received by Police Scotland this morning. Enquiry is ongoing to establish identity and circumstances. At this time, there is no knowledge of how long the deceased has been in the water.”
Police remained in attendance in Monday morning with an area of the promenade beach cordoned off as investigations were being carried out.
