Exciting plans for six tourist eco lodges on the outskirts of Largs have been submitted to the council.

The development at Craigton Farm on Brisbane Glen Road is being put forward by the owners of the nearby Middleton Farm.

They plan to use the cabins for short-stay tourist accommodation, with the owners keen to promote local activities such as cycling and fishing.

The application and drawings have been prepared by McMillan and Cronin Architects of Main Street in Largs.

The application states: “The setting of the cabins would provide a countryside location for those wishing to enjoy an active, environmentally friendly, break.

“It is envisaged it will be particularly attractive to those interested in walking, running, cycling and fishing, whilst offering easy access to the amenities of Largs and the attractions of the north coast.

“It is considered that this project aligns with existing tourism infrastructure as there is significant tourist accommodation and activities in Brisbane Glen and in Largs.

“There would also be an economic benefit to the area from having additional tourist accommodation.”

The intention of the site will be to blend the development into the surrounding countryside and use materials local to the area.

In a pre-application consultation response, council planning officer John Mac says he believes there would be a strong economic benefit to the local area.

He said: “It is likely that there is an alignment with existing tourism infrastructure as there is significant tourist accommodation and activities in Brisbane Glen and in Largs.

“Likewise, there would likely be an economic benefit to the area from having additional tourist accommodation.

“It is considered likely that an application for three glamping pods could be supported on this site, assuming the requirements of the other relevant LDP polices are also met.”

Constraints surrounding the Noddsdale Water and Kilburn Glen have been noted in the application as being sites of importance for nature conservation.
