A KIND-hearted Largs businessman has ensured that the town’s Church of the Nazarene can continue to provide meals for vulnerable residents.
Cameron Simmons, who runs Versatile Kitchens and Bathrooms, donated a new hob to the church so it can keep serving upto 120 meals every week for the town’s foodbank.
Pastor Tasha Alison says the gesture sprung from a donation from two of the church’s congregation.
She explained: “Rick and Janis Wilson had known of the need for a new hob for some time, and told us last month that they had looked at a new gas hob that they would like to purchase and donate.
“A five-burner would have required some modification to the countertop, and they said that they knew a professional installer that they could ask.
“A few weeks went by and Janis had reached out to Cameron to see if he could install it when it was bought.
“Cameron told Janis that he had a cooker he was going to install in someone’s home, but they had changed their minds and said that he would be glad to donate it for free.”
Tasha, pictured with the new cooker, has praised Cameron, inset, for his generosity and says the hob means an important service can be maintained for the community for years to come.
She said: “We were all pretty wowed by his kindness and Rick and Janis covered the installation.
“The hob is the single most important piece of equipment in our kitchen because we are cooking so many meals for folks in the community.
“With this new piece of equipment, our ministry will not only be more efficient, but we will also expend less energy doing so.
“We’d like Cam to know that we appreciate his willingness to meet a need in the community and his generosity will feed our neighbours and build community for years to come.”
Cameron says that the donation was the least he could do to help the church, community and residents of Largs.
He said: “Janis and Richard have been great in recommending my company to others I have also done a lot of work for them personally, so I thought it was the least I could do.
“Janis said they were trying to cook on a hob that only had one working ring so I said to her I would give them one. It is a great cause.
