A NEW coffee shop owner in Largs is bringing some 'Turkish delight' to job hunters through his new venture.

Arkan Gumbat, 41, has been scouring the west coast of Scotland for somewhere to open a new eaterie and made a move for Gallowgate Street eaterie The Bean and Leaf next to the seafront car park.

Arkan, who came to Scotland from Turkey eight years ago, is aiming to create six jobs when he opens on Monday.

These will include kitchen and waiting staff positions.

The father-of-one said: "When The Bean and Leaf came up, I jumped at it and I hope customers see a lot of positive changes inside and outside.

"I have a cafe through in Edinburgh and I visit Largs because my wife works here. I have seen how busy it can be in the summer months, and thought it would be great to expand into the town.

"I love hill walking and the countryside, so coming to Largs seemed a good move."

Arkan said he plans to keep the name 'Bean and Leaf' for now.

He said: "I will keep the name for now, later on, I don't know, but I will go with the name as it is recognised."

The Bean and Leaf had been operating for 15 years up until it was put up for sale in 2018.

Largs businesswoman Toni Dawson - whose brother Maxwell and his wife Madeleine had run the bistro for the past 15 years - told the News that the restaurant was being sold for personal reasons.

The building formerly served as the town's Tourist Information Bureau.
