The Gillian's Saltire Swim between the Isle of Cumbrae and Largs has been cancelled for the second year running by organisers.
The popular event which has attracted hundreds of swimmers has been running for around 15 years - and has been a big fundraiser for the local Gillian's Saltire Appeal which provides respite accommodation for people recovering from cancer.
A spokesperson for the Saltire Appeal said: "It is with regret that we announce that there will be no swim in 2021.
"Although restrictions are beginning to ease there is no guarantee that we would be able to host an event in September.
"Organising the swim takes months of planning and we rely on many volunteers on the day and unfortunately we cannot afford to take the risk of a last minute cancellation.
"All going well we will return in September 2022, and look forward to welcoming everyone then.
"Thank you for your continued support.
