STAFF from a homeless charity are getting on their bikes around Cumbrae to raise vital funds.

Help the Homeless Glasgow, which supports those living on the streets in the city, is looking for volunteers to take part in fancy dress cycle.

Organiser Anton Reilly says the charity is a vital service for so many.

He explained: “We go out onto the streets on a Saturday night offering those sleeping rough and those less fortunate sandwiches, drinks and essentials such as clothes and toiletries.

“I also go out on a Saturday morning visiting the rough sleepers offering them breakfast, coffee and advice, but all of this costs money."

Anton says his personal connection to the island made it a perfect location for the charity challenge.

He said: “I absolutely love Millport and spend a lot of time there at my parents' caravan.

“I thought it would be a great place to bring people to and an ideal location for our charity cycle later this year."

Anton is encouraging residents of all ages to join in.

He said: “We will all meet at the harbour with our bikes, and those that don’t have one can hire one from Mapes.

“Everyone will be in fancy dress and high spirits and I’m hoping friends and family will come along to cheer us all off.

“We will also have buckets with us for people that want to throw a few coins in towards the charity’s work.

“It will be a great day out in a magical place for a very good cause."
