Cases of covid-19 in Largs have fallen to their lowest levels since early June as cases nationally continue to tumble.

From July 17 to 23, just three cases of the virus were detected in the town and on Cumbrae, a dramatic drop from the 19 new cases recorded in the previous week.

In the last week, Largs Central and Cumbrae has registered three new cases, while Largs North and Largs South are currently suppressing the virus.

This means that the areas have recorded between zero and two cases in the past week, with the true number hidden to protect patient confidentiality.

Skelmorlie is continuing to see high numbers of cases following an outbreak in the village earlier this month, with nine new cases in the past seven days.

West Kilbride and Seamill also recorded four cases in the past week, with Fairlie and the surrounding rural area is suppressing the virus.

Across North Ayrshire, a further 178 cases were registered in the past week, a test positivity rate of 5.5 per cent.

This is a further decrease on the previous week, when 206 cases were recorded with a test positivity rate of 5.7 per cent.

The current hotspot for the virus in North Ayrshire is Ardrossan Central, which recorded seven new cases and a case rate of 228.1 per 100,000 people.

In the last recorded week, 10,662 new cases of covid-19 were recorded across Scotland, a test positivity rate of 7.2 per cent.

Across all local authorities in Scotland, North Ayrshire currently sits 30th overall for its case rate, compared to 28th the previous week.

Midlothian currently has the highest covid-19 case rate of any local authority in Scotland.
