Largs teen swim sensation Abby Kane was a record breaker last weekend with another terrific swim.
The 19 year old was among a number of swimmers who recorded top times and set British Para-Swimming short course records on the opening day of the British Para Swimming Winter National Meet 2022.
The University of Stirling student was competing at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.
Fresh from the previous week’s BUCS Championships in Sheffield, Abby Kane lowered her own Scottish Records in the 50m and 100m freestyle, touching home in 29.51 and 1:04.42 respectively.
Abby said: “I’m feeling really positive, starting this season. Last season I really focused on freestyle and it’s really showing now with these performances. It’s nice to see my swimming going in an upward trend so far – it’s been a while coming.
“I’ve been doing a lot of stand-up swims through training which has helped my confidence a lot.
"My swims last week at BUCS have helped coming into this competition, knowing I can go faster than what I have. For me it’s just about improving that.
"The time (100 free) isn’t quite where I want it to be yet, but as an athlete I don’t think you’re ever completely happy with your time.
“I just want to carry the positivity and momentum forward. I just want to enjoy this meet – when I’m happy, that’s when I perform at my best.”
Abby Kane completed the 50m Freestyle in 29.51 and the 100m Freestyle in 1:04.42.
Proud mum Karen said: "I am so happy for Abby after some unbelievable results in 2016 and a long plateaux of never giving up, 12 years of competitive swimming and once again personal bests coming through."
