Big screen stars could be heading to Largs this year after the town’s community council contacted The Screen Machine about staging new screenings.
The Screen Machine is a mobile 80-seat air-conditioned, digital cinema service which travels around Scotland.
It provides recent releases and community councillor Patricia Perman believes it would be a great thing to have this summer.
The Screen Machine visited the Isle of Cumbrae before Christmas and showed the multi Academy award nominated The Banshees of Inisherin starring Colin Farrell - the only cinema in North Ayrshire to do so.
Patricia said: “The Screen Machine is a mobile cinema which regularly visits the Isle of Cumbrae as well as a number of other places around the country - if it is coming to Millport, why doesn’t come over to Largs too, so it gets two for the price of one.
“I have contacted The Screen Machine and made the suggestion, so hopefully they take it up.”
It would be the first time recently released movies would be shown in Largs since the Vikingar Cinema closed in the 1990s after it hosted the likes of classic flicks including Saving Private Ryan, Titanic and Moulin Rouge.
Patricia said it is hoped that the Screen Machine could be based in a local car park such as at the Vikingar!
The Screen Machine has visited Millport for many years and regularly sells its tickets in advance through local promotions and keeps a limited number of tickets for sale on the door for it most popular movies.
The Screen Machine is an 80-seat air-conditioned, digital mobile cinema service that has been bringing the latest films to over 40 communities of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland since 1998.
Screen Machine is owned and operated by Regional Screen Scotland (RSS), a company limited by guarantee with charitable status which aims to enable more people in more places to share great screen experiences.
Visiting Screen Machine is just like visiting a normal static cinema: you sit in a darkened auditorium with comfortable seats that all have a clear view of the large screen, and be able to enjoy excellent digital projection and impressive surround sound.
With a capacity of only 78 they encourage everyone to book online in advance.
