North Ayrshire has been named as the most affordable place to live in Scotland by a recent study.

PlumbNation explored how the average cost of properties and utilities rose over the past decade, and revealed the gap between house prices and wages to determine the most affordable areas.

North Ayrshire ranked second in the UK, with average annual pay of £30,485 and an average house price of £125,893, leading to a salary to price ratio of 4.13.

This was beaten only by Burnley, who had average annual pay of £27,945 and average house prices of £114,100 for a ratio of 4.08.

Both Inverclyde and East Ayrshire ranked on the top ten list, in fifth place with a ratio of 4.23 and seventh place with a ratio of 4.39 respectively.

Camden in London has the least affordable housing for residents, with the average house price around 17.5 times that of the average annual salary.
