A West Kilbride man has been named as a British Empire Medal (BEM) winner in recognition of his charity work.
Jonathan Miller set up a charity which provides funding for care and support to vulnerable children and adults, primarily based in Scotland, and across the UK.
The Jonathan Cartmell Miller Charitable Trust has the 'aim of improving the quality of life for those in poverty and suffering from acute illness; and relieve those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, in particular children and those requiring end of life care'.
One of the trust's first beneficiaries was the Kilbryde Hospice charity, which received a donation of £10,000 in 2021.
In a social media post following news of the donation, a member of the public supported by Kilbryde Hospice described Jonathan and his wife Allana as "a lovely couple", adding: "They've also helped so many families here in Tenerife with food and toiletries and made so many children happy filling the Christmas hampers.
"Thank you so much for what you did for me and so many others."
Other West Kilbride names to have featured in past honours lists include the late Jim Duncan from Largs, who founded a multiple sclerosis therapy centre in the village and received an MBE in 2000, and former councillor Liz McLardy, who was given the same honour in 2008.
