Several of the North Coast's councillors have united in their opposition to a planning application at the foot of Douglas Street in Largs.
The exception is Cllr Murdoch who, as a member of the committee, is not allowed to comment on applications.
The application is for a single dwellinghouse to be erected at the foot of Douglas Street on the corner with Greenock Road.
Plans for the site at 68 Greenock Road have been lodged with North Ayrshire Council (NAC) by Maurice McMillan.
Mr McMillan wants to build a new three or four bedroomed home in the garden in front of the existing residential property at the address.
The new building, if permission is granted, would be located next to the junction of Douglas Street and the A78.
The News recently reported that former planning chairman Cllr Tom Marshall was in opposition to the plan - see here
Cllr Alan Hill said: “Some years ago, I was involved with a local group to oppose a proposed block of flats on this site. We were successful in preserving the open aspects as you enter the town here and this has since been reflected in the council’s policies for this area, especially the Largs Seafront Design Framework.
"This application is a concern both because it would bring development in front of the building line here but also because of the precedent which may be set allowing much larger developments on the seafront, especially in the area between Douglas Street and Brisbane Street.”
The application can be viewed on the council’s web site under number 23/00358/PP.
Cllr Hill commented: “Cllr Murdoch is a member of the planning committee and as such, is not permitted to comment on applications. The remaining four elected members have discussed this issue and agreed to submit a joint objection to it.
"Former planning committee chair Cllr Marshall has prepared a joint letter from us and this has now been submitted to the planning department. We have also asked to be heard at the committee meeting."
Cllr Hill added: "The web site confirms that the date for objecting to this application is now passed however I would still urge local people who have concerns to send in objections to this application anyway. I am sure that council officers will still be able to take account of these.”
