The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms across Ayrshire with disruption expected across the region.
The warning, which also includes heavy showers, runs from 10am this morning until 11pm tonight.
Public transport could face disruption due to the severe weather, with driving conditions on the roads also deteriorating.
The Met Office said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will occur across parts of Scotland and northern England.
"Lightning and hail are likely in places, whilst rainfall totals of 15-20 mm in one hour are possible, with a few places seeing 30 mm within 2-3 hours.
"The heaviest showers and thunderstorms will ease from most areas through the evening, but they could linger in parts of northwest Scotland and also over the far south of Scotland and far north of England."
