Now that we are in the period of holiday time, are holidays something that you love or loathe?
Many people love them because it gives them an opportunity to escape the day-to-day routine they usually experience. It allows them time to visit other places that time and circumstances don’t allow because of family and work commitments. It gives them a chance to seek warmer climes and visit other places in the UK, as well as further afield. It also gives people a chance to visit family and friends they may not have seen for a long time. Holidays are what many people look forward to most as the year progresses. A holiday for many people can be a thrilling and exciting experience and something that remains in their memory for a long, long time to come.
However, for some holiday time is a challenge. Working parents can have difficulty in finding someone able to look after their children when they go out to work. Very few parents can afford the luxury of taking a seven-week break when the schools close for summer. Also, finding extra money to fund summer activities can be a nightmare for many. For such parents the end of the holidays can’t come quick enough so that everyone can get back to normal living again.
What do you think would happen to the world if God, (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) took a holiday? Who would look after the universe?
I believe the universe would collapse. The bible tells us that “God [the Son] upholds the universe by his word of power.” (Heb 1:3)
Christ, the Son is responsible for keeping the planets in orbit. Many believers today passionately believe God keeps the entire universe in palm of his hand (Isaiah 40:12 – 26). God is therefore not only the creator God but the sustainer God. And this role of sustainer has been deliberately passed on to God the Son.
Note too, that it is Christ’s word that keep the universe from falling apart. Whatever Christ speaks in the universe and whatever he commands is done. In Christ’s strong hands every believer is eternally secure.
No matter what is happening in our world today, let us hold fast to the fact that our God never takes a holiday, nor slumbers nor sleeps but keeps his watchful eye on every person living in the world he created.
