Police in Ayrshire are reminding locals and visitors that sailing through a pod of whales or dolphins can be a wildlife crime.
The Ayrshire coastline is home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales and seals.
However, police say wildlife crimes against these animals can happen when people purposely harm, disturb, harass or chase them on jet skis, boats, kayaks or paddleboards.
A police spokesperson said: “Sailing through pods of whale or dolphins risks injuring the animals and separating them from their young, and can be a wildlife crime.
“If you think you’ve witnessed a wildlife crime, call 101 or 999 in an emergency. Video or photograph the incident and note any details.”
