The Largs Viking Festival has pulled off an aeronautical coup by securing a fly-past on its final weekend, starring an iconic military plane from the Second World War.
As recently reported, the festival was forced to axe its annual air display due to a loss of £30,000 funding from Event Scotland. However, organisers behind this year's festival have managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat.
There will be a Spitfire flypast over Largs on the afternoons of both September 9 and 10, weather permitting.
Young and old alike are set to be enthralled, not only at their speed in excess of 300mph, but the graceful lines and excellent aerobatics.
Chairman Douglas Blair is delighted about the addition.
He said: "Although we have no air display as such this year, we have arranged a fly-past of dual spitfires on September 9 and 10."
Ten years ago, a Supermarine Spitfire so closely linked to the epic Battle of Britain between June and September 1940, carried out a historic fly-past over Largs to mark the 750th anniversary of The Battle of Largs.
This year's Norse extravaganza runs from September 2-10. For more details, go to www.largsvikingfestival.com.
