North Ayrshire Council has issued guidance on Avian Flu after a number of dead birds were spotted on beaches in the area.
The local authority says it suspects the birds were infected with the virus, although numbers at the moment are low and all of the animals have been removed.
Avian Flu poses a very low risk to humans, but people should still avoid touching any dead or sick birds, and keep children and pets away.
Avoid feeding wild bids, and do not touch any feathers or surfaces contaminated with droppings. If you come into contact with wild birds, wash your hands and clean your footwear.
Sightings of dead birds can be made to the council’s contact centre on 01294 310000.
