A talented mother and son have spoken of their delight at showcasing their works for the first time at a Largs gallery.
Ness and Kaelan Johnston will be exhibiting their works at Studio 44 in Boyd Street in the gallery’s ‘New Divide’ exhibition.
The show also features artist Euan Tait, and can be viewed every day between 10am and 4pm until August 19.
Ness, 61, revealed she only took up art as a new passion a few years ago, but is hoping to turn it into a fresh career.
She said: “When I moved to Scotland a few years ago, I joined a community art group and fell in love with it straight away.
“They encouraged me to apply to Ayrshire College and now I’m studying an honours degree at the University of the West of Scotland in new art and media.
“Despite being 61, I want to pursue a new career in art and sell my works online, which are abstract pieces inspired by the countryside, as well as digital works of urban streets and trains.
“I want to work in the community to help people from different backgrounds get inspired through art who may otherwise not have a chance to experience it.”
Ness says Kaelan has developed a keen interest in old photography, and will also be heading to college later this year.
She explained: “Kaelen has developed his own interests in 35mm film and old cameras in the past couple of years.
“He loves to take pictures of urban surroundings and abandoned shops, including the former Debenhams store in Ayr.
“He just secured a place at Ayr College and will be starting an HNC in television and film production after the summer.
“It’s amazing that he has such a keen interest in it all, and it’s nice that we can exhibit our work together for the first time.”
Ness explained showcasing their work in the public gallery has been a new experience, and is encouraging everyone to head along and check it out.
She added: “I go to university with Euan and when he got involved with Marion at Studio 44, she invited us to take a slot in the exhibition.
“We’ve exhibited at Ayrshire College as part of our course, but this will be the first time showing our work in such a public space.
“The opening night was fantastic, with family and friends there alongside people we had never met but who were so nice.
“The exhibition has something for everyone and I’m sure if people popped along to check it out they wouldn’t be disappointed.”
