The operators of the Waverley have issued urgent information explaining why this afternoon's trip round Ailsa Craig has been cancelled.
Waverley sailed from Glasgow Science Centre and Largs as planned earlier today but on passage to Ayr this afternoon, high winds were becoming a problem.
A Waverley spokesperson said: "It became apparent that swell and wind conditions are beyond passenger comfort for offering the cruise as planned round Ailsa Craig.
"We have therefore taken the decision to cancel the cruise from Ayr and round Ailsa Craig.
"We apologise sincerely for making this late notice cancellation but with winds guesting to over 30 knots in Ayr Harbour this decision has been made in the interest of safety for passengers, crew and the vessel.
"We do apologise to all our Ayr passengers for this late cancellation.
"Waverley’s next sailing from Ayr will be on Wednesday, August 23 at 0930 for a cruise to Largs, Rothesay, Tighnabruaich and Tarbert to Ardrishaig.
"Ayr passengers who were pre-booked for today’s cruise are more than welcome to join Waverley on Wednesday and enjoy a more expensive cruise at no extra cost.
"Alternatively those with pre-booked tickets can apply for a refund or transfer to any other sailing."
