North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson insists more research is needed to understand Alzheimer's.
The MP met with representatives of Alzheimer's Research UK, the country's leadng research charity on the disease, during World Alzheimer's Month this September.
The charity is working to revolutionise the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia with almost one million people living with the disease across the UK.
Half of the population will be directly affected by Alzheimer's in their lifetime, either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it themselves or both.
Mrs Gibson said: "It is estimated in my constituency of North Ayrshire and Arran that 1,425 people have been diagnosed with this cruel and distressing disease but many others go undiagnosed.
"More research into and understanding if this condition is vital."
