It may be the end for Sunday services at St John's and St Columba's Parish Churches in Largs, but both buildings will continue to be used by the church until next June.
Amid online speculation about the possible future uses of the church, Reverend Doctor Graham McWilliams told the News nothing has been decided about what will happen beyond July 2024, with elders in the newly formed joint Kirk Session having their first meeting later this month.
It was an emotional weekend last month as both St John's and St Columba's Parish in Largs hosted their final services.
Graham McWilliams said: "We had two baptisms from families within the congregation so even though it was the end of an era with the last church service, it was really special and a feeling of another chapter opening for the church in Largs.
"We held our God's Families event at the weekend too and we will continue to do so.
"It was good to see the baptisms and there will be a couple more in a few weeks' time in the new Largs Community Church, which is good as people feel more secure about the new set-up and there are positive signs for the future.
"David Watson and I are now the parish ministers for Cumbrae, Fairlie and Largs Community Church, and Parish assistant Gus Mackay will also continue to assist.
"St John and St Columba's Parish church will stay open till the end of June - both buildings will continue to be used other than capacity to hold Sunday services, which will now be held in the Largs Community Church - the Clark Memorial Church."
Addressing comments from an anonymous letter writer criticising the access of Clark Memorial, compared to St John's, Graham said: "I am not sure why one person would say one building is more accessible than the other - Clark Memorial has been in existence for all these years and has full disabled access."
Graham confirmed that the outgoing Kirk Session of St John's is seeking to gain a feasibility study in relation to how sustainable the building is, adding: "Since the building's closure by the presbytery last year, the energy prices have escalated.
"Members of St John's Kirk Session want the feasibility study as you'd imagine the energy prices would be much less, as St John's is significantly smaller than Clark Memorial, but setting up a feasibility study would then need to be approved by the new Kirk Session of Cumbrae, Fairlie and Largs Community Parish.
"The new church structure sees both David Watson and myself as the church ministers, and a session clerk team will come together to co-ordinate the kirk session, and all the elders will come together in a meeting in October 15, at which the structure of the church will be presented. The committees will all have different remits - and if that gets approved - all the elders of the previous congregations will sign up for the one committee and together we will move the church forward."
Addressing the speculation about the future of St John's and St Columba's Parish Church building, Graham said: "No building has been sold - and they are going to continue to be used. Both buildings re going to continue to be active till the end of June for weddings and funerals, an for other functions, and will continue to be active, other than the fact they won't be hosting Sunday services.
"We will have three worship centres in Largs, Cumbrae and Fairlie - with the ministers alternating.
"The minister who leads Cumbrae Parish Church on a Sunday morning at 11am will lead the Largs Community Church worship on Thursday morning service at 10.30am.
"And the minister who leads worship in Fairlie Parish Church at 9.30am in Fairlie, and 11am in Largs."
