A HOST of remembrance parades and events have been organised to commemorate the war dead next weekend.
The news was confirmed by Provost Anthea Dickson following a question about what was planned from North Coast Conservative Councillor Todd Ferguson at a council meeting last Wednesday.
On Armistice Day, Saturday, November 11, a short service will take place in the memorial garden on Burns Street, Irvine, where a two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.
All elected members have been invited to attend. A two-minute silence will also be observed in council offices on that day.
The majority of the events are arranged by the local branches of the Royal British Legion Scotland and, in some cases, the local churches.
The Provost will attend the Remembrance Day parade and service in Irvine on Sunday, November 12 and the Depute Provost, John Sweeney, will attend services in Saltcoats and Stevenston.
Wreaths are available to elected members who may wish to lay one at a Remembrance Sunday service taking place in their ward. One wreath will be available for each event.
Council buildings including Kilwinning Abbey, The Portal and Saltcoats Town Hall will be approached to ask if they would like to light up red, in line with the Royal British Legion campaign as they have in previous years.
