A Christmas nativity scene at Cumbrae Parish Church was vandalised in Millport over the weekend.
The incident happened on Saturday evening and anyone with any information is urged to contact the police.
The church posted on its Facebook page that young people often hang about outside during the evening without issue, but following this incident security cameras will be installed.
The Cumbrae Parish Church post said: "Sad to be met this morning by the vandalism of our nativity scene and the rubbish left at the entrance of the church last night.
"We know the young people meet and sit at the front of the church of an evening and have been doing so for sometime.
"We've never objected but we have reported this to the police and cameras will now have to be installed something we thought we shouldn't have to do on our island.
"If anyone has any information please contact the local police."
It follows a recent incident of vandalism at the seafront shelter which was marked with graffiti.
Cumbrae Parish Church and Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
