The start of 2024 launches the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), which has been saving lives for 200 years and counting!
There will be lots going on locally and nationally to commemorate and celebrate its history, today’s lifesavers and to acknowledge its young and older supporters.
RNLI staff have already been on daytime TV to kick off this memorable year and will publicise national events throughout the year.
Nationally to note includes the Royal Mint printing a commemorative set of coins, and an anniversary Rose being unveiled at the Chelsea Flower Show and named by members as “With courage”.
Locally, the fundraising branch is planning special events to highlight the birthday, raise awareness of the work that the volunteer crews do, and of course, raise funds so their excellent work can continue!
The first event is an anniversary tea to be held in the Clark Memorial Hall on Saturday, January 27, from 2pm to 4pm, with details of other events and venues to follow before they occur.
The continuing support of the community, individuals and businesses is always appreciated and however people are involved, the local Branch Committee thank you and hope for a great celebratory year!
