A POPULAR visitor attraction in Largs is set to host a free open day after a revamp.
The Vikingar! experience at KA Leisure's facilities is set to welcome back visitors in time for Easter after making audio visual enhancements.
To celebrate the recent refurbishment, Vikingar! - also known as The Battle of Largs Heritage Centre - is hosting the event on Saturday, April 6.
The free open day from 10am until 4pm will be action-packed with fun for all.
A mini-Viking-village will take over the theatre auditorium, with all-day living history and demonstrations, and exciting Viking re-enactment performances at 12pm and 3pm from The Glasgow Vikings.
Other special guests include Amber Othala, The Society of John De Graeme, Clan Hunter and lively, passionate-about-Vikings volunteers from the Largs Viking Festival.
Traders will also be in the winter garden, along with workshops, crafts, activities, demonstrations, storytelling and a KA Leisure Viking Gym challenge.
However, the main attraction is the ticketed Vikingar! experience of an hour-long tour and a Viking tour guide, that will venture inside the exhibition to be whisked back 1,000 years ago to Norway, into a replica longhouse, with a special message from Odin the Viking warrior at the end.
Accessible and offering fun and intrigue for all ages, visitors to the main exhibition will experience what it would have been like to live a day in the life of a Viking.
They will also be able to try on replica helmets and under supervision, hold swords and axes.
Councillor Alan Hill, cabinet member for Communities and Islands said: “The, Vikingar! visitor attraction is an exciting, interactive experience led by real Viking storytellers.
“Popular with school pupils and young families and children who want to find out more about Viking history and the Battle of Largs, the venue offers the chance to learn about an important part of Scotland’s history.
“Operated by our partners at KA Leisure, Vikingar! is a prominent landmark celebrating North Ayrshire’s local culture and heritage and a unique destination that brings many visitors to Largs to discover the impact Vikings had on our lives and culture today.
“If you want to experience the day in the life of a Viking over 1,000 years ago and enjoy some free family fun before the interactive tour, why not save the date for the Vikingar! Open Day.”
