AN AMATEUR theatre group in Largs is set to compete against the very best in Scotland after its one-act play caught the eye of judges.
The Largs Players won through to the Scottish final of the Scottish Community Drama Association's One Act Play Festival after winning the Western divisional final in Castle Douglas with their performance of 'It's Behind You'.
They also won the prize for the Scottish Life and Character performance.
The cast, including Danny Lindsay and Matt Wilkin, director Maggie Cunningham, crew and club are buzzing after receiving the news.
It's the first time the amateur drama group has entered the festival for many years, and secretary Fiona Carruthers described their divisional victory as 'wonderful news'.
The one-act play by Alan McHugh takes audiences to somewhere they have never been before - inside the dressing room.
Specifically, it's set in theatre dressing room shared by the famous panto double act of Norrie and Nicky, a panto dame and silly boy co-star, and tells a story of comedy and tragedy in equal measure.
Maggie said: "It is one of the funniest and best things that I have ever read and had a lot pathos throughout.
"It's the story of a father and son. It's basically set in the dressing room after the performance, and is very panto-esque.
"It is written by Alan McHugh, who is very well known in the Scottish acting circuit.
"We are very lucky to have two great actors to take on the parts - Matt can turn his hand to anything and is so adept, having appeared in countless productions for Largs Players, while Danny Lindsay has so often played the silly boy co-star."
The Scottish finals will be held at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock over three nights this week, from Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27, with Largs Players performing on the opening night.
Tickets are available from beaconartscentre.co.uk.
