THE owner of a Largs chippy which will close its doors for the last time this weekend says she's looking forward to spending more time with her family.

Gino's Fryer in Tron Place is set to close its doors this Sunday, April 28, having been in business for 42 years.

Owner Franca Sheridan made the announcement on social media on Monday.

It was announced yesterday on the official Facebook page of Gino's Fryer that the takeaway would be closing.

Franca took over the running of the premises eight years ago after many years in the hands of Franco Martinelli.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Speaking to the News, Franca said: "I have been thinking about it  for a while.

"It is for lots of different reasons and not just the current economic climate. I felt it was the right time to leave and take a step back.

"We have had a very low turnover of staff. They have stuck with me over the years, and it pleases me to know that they have already been contacted about taking up similar positions elsewhere in the town.

"Other businesses know that we did a good job with them and trained them up so well. Our staff have been fantastic and very understanding.

"I am wanting to concentrate more now on my family and spending more time with my grandkids."

Franca thanked her loyal customers for their supportive comments in response to her announcement.

"It even makes me feel like not closing the shop," she said, "but I have now made a final decision.

"It is good to know that we have made such a positive impact with our customers and in the community.

"We hope to donate any excess supplies to the local food bank on Sunday and it will be a chance to say farewell to our loyal customers."

In her letter to customers, posted on the business's Facebook page, Franca said: "After much consideration and with a heavy heart, I have made the difficult decision to close Gino’s Fryer.

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of our customers for their patronage over the last eight years.

"There are many reasons for my decision to close but mainly its because I feel that I cannot continue to devote the time and energy required to run and maintain the business.

"On a personal level, it’s been a tough 12 months, never mind the economic challenges we have faced as a business.

"I deeply appreciate your understanding during this challenging time and I will miss being a part of this wonderful community and serving you all.

"I would also like to thank my wonderful staff for all of their hard work, commitment and understanding. Any business would be blessed with such a great team.

"Our final day of operation will be Sunday, April 28. Until then, we will continue to serve you with the same dedication and commitment as always.

"If you still have a food bank voucher from Christmas, please use it this week.

"Thank you once again for your support over the last eight years."
