Four young members of the Magnum Figure Skating Club are set to compete in the British Novice Championships in Sheffield next week.

Lewis, whose mum, Suzanne Otterson, is a former Olympic figure skater, and his clubmates Lottie, Lily and Isla will be competing to be the best figure skaters in the UK at their level.

A club spokesperson said: "This is a very prestigious achievement in British figure skating which also allows them to compete internationally representing the UK.

"There may be a British champion or two in the group..."

The skating club operated from the Magnum in Irvine from 1976 until 2011, when the old leisure centre closed.

They relocated to Auchenharvie Ice Rink, and have remained there ever since, while retaining the Magnum name.

The club has been very successful throughout its 40 year history, producing some world class skaters, who have represented GB internationally.

Lewis's mum Suzanne skated for the club, and represented Great Britain at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.

They have an elite coaching team, some who are past Magnum skaters, who have won British championships and international acclaim.

The club runs Learn to Skate lessons on Sunday afternoons at Auchenharvie ice rink and you can email magnum.fsc@gmail.com to book a free taster lesson.
