A 12 year old girl has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after a serious road accident on the A78.
The trunk road between Ardrossan and West Kilbride had been closed after a serious accident but re-opened at 8.43pm.
Drivers were being asked to avoid the area following the accident, which had seen the road closed in both directions.
A police spokesperson said: "Ardrossan Road in Seamill has re-opened following a collision involving a pedestrian and a car which happened around 3.50pm.
"The pedestrian, a 12-year-old girl, was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow."
