A long established shop in Largs has had a rebrand as efforts to step up promotion of the town to both locals and visitors gather pace.

Wards of Largs, on the Main Street, has been a firm fixture of the local retail scene for 40 years - and owner Les Ward has decided it's time to do his, and his business's, bit to encourage people in the area to shop local.

While still trading as Wards of Largs, Les has rebranded the store to 'I Love Largs', with T-shirts and fridge magnets among the items being used to spread the word.

The store used to supply school uniforms, but is now geared firmly towards the visitors market.

Les says he hopes interest in the 'I Love Largs' brand and merchandise will run alongside interest in the Scottish football merchandise already sold in the store as the Euro 2024 championships in Germany draw ever closer.

Largs is far from the first neighbourhood to adopt the 'heart' marketing campaign, with New York setting the trend when graphic designer Milton Glaser created the iconic logo in 1976.

Many towns and cities around the world have adopted their own version since then, with Arran doing so with particular success in the 1980s and 1990s.

And Les, who was inspired to bring the idea to Largs when he saw it on the high streets of Krakow during a visit to the Polish city, is now hoping his home town can make the most of the instantly recognisable brand.

He said "I thought we'd change our branding to 'I Love Largs' in time for the European Championships to complement our Scottish footballing merchandise we sell in the shop.

"I was in Krakov on a city break and I saw these shops with 'I Love Krakov' and I thought a similar thing would work over here, so I got in touch with Largs Printing Company and Scott and Stuart McGregor printed off for me this lovely new sign.

"There will be a merchandise line to go with it so I am hoping that it will help promote Largs near and far.

"I am a great believer in 'shopping local' and we have had a lot of positive local feedback, so we hope to continue it beyond the Euros."
