A COMMUNITY open day marked the official takeover of a West Kilbride pharmacy.
As previously reported, the former Lloyds Pharmacy in the village has been taken over by Numark, and is now known as Rowlands Pharmacy.
The event on June 4, which served as a recommitment to serving the local community saw local resident, Lorna Donald, cut the all-important blue ribbon to welcome in the new era.
Lorna began her job at the pharmacy at 16 and retired at the end of April 2021. She is greatly loved by the local community, and she is still regarded as very much part of the team, regularly popping in to branch with her granddaughter.
The company is run by pharmacist Julie Goldie, who has served the community in West Kilbride for 16 years, along with a team of colleagues from the area.
The branch also made a donation of £250 to Community Roots who work to help the community live their best, healthiest lives through food security and outlets that improve physical and mental well-being.
Pharmacist Julie Goldie said: “It’s been a wonderful morning at Rowlands Pharmacy West Kilbride. It was lovely to welcome the community into store and re-cement our commitment to them.
“As community pharmacists we’re a pillar of healthcare for the locality and it was a great opportunity to discuss the services we offer – including our new ear wax microsuction service.”
Lorna added: “I’ve had a fantastic time opening the Numark Pharmacy Community Open Day. It was an honour to open the doors and welcome customers in.
“Community pharmacies are so important in providing access to healthcare and I’m proud to have supported Numark Pharmacy in providing this much needed facility.”
Customers of the branch will be offered access to prescription dispensary, vaccination services, over the counter medications, emergency contraception, and medication review.
Within the Pharmacy First Scotland service, West Kilbride customers will also benefit from expert advice in treating a range of common conditions from seasonal illnesses such as coughs, colds, sore throats, earache, and hayfever, to common skin conditions including athlete’s foot, acne, eczema, verrucas and warts, along with common clinical conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), threadworms and shingles.
