Largs Yacht Haven has increased its capacity for larger vessels.

The pontoon facility, part of the largest marina in Scotland, has adjusted its berthing layout to meet growing demand for berthing vessels up to 20m in length.

It now provides berthing facilities for more than 700 boats, along with 300 more in its boatyard facility, serviced by a 75-ton boat hoist and a 'park and launch' service.

In recent years the popular marina has witnessed a change in demand for its visitor and resident pontoon berths.

Marina manager Dave Hewitt said: “We’ve seen a notable increase in the number of 15m to 20m vessels berthed at Largs Yacht Haven.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

“Berths for this size of boat can be hard to come by for owners, so to meet this demand we have adjusted a number of finger berths to provide additional alongside berthing for boats of 15 metres plus.”

With larger berths comes an increased demand for services, which meant the marina had to install more 32-amp electric points, as well as additional cleats and more wifi access points.

The new 75-ton boat hoist was installed 18 months ago.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

The marina opened in the spring of 1984 under the ownership of the Kalis family, owners of Lymington Yacht Haven.

It's now part of the Yacht Havens Group and is one of nine facilities owned by the company, the others being in Troon, Pembrokeshire, Plymouth, Essex, Biesbosch in the Netherlands, and at the company's birthplace in Lymington.

Dave added: “The Yacht Haven means so much to the local community of Largs and Ayrshire, and the wider boating network.

"We have a series of events planned to celebrate our ruby anniversary for berth holders and the wider community alike."
