It’s National Fish and Chips Day, and Fish Works in Largs is celebrating in style by wrapping the D-Day 80th anniversary into proceedings.

Head along to Largs seafront for a delicious fish supper and receive a free mini sausage with every fish and chips (while stocks last).

Plus, keep an ear out for a special alarm – you might just get your meal on the house!

Enjoy the stirring sounds of their piper, commemorating Piper Bill who famously played for the soldiers on Normandy beach.

The Fish Works are also serving meals to the 25 Group Royal Observer Corps Association (ROCA) as they participate in the UK-wide beacon lighting ceremony.

The 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings will be commemorated with the lighting of a beacon on the hillside between Largs and Skelmorlie - at the Skelmorlie Secret Bunker - where free fish and chips will be provided, courtesy of The Fish Works.

The 25 Group Royal Observer Corps Association will mark their contribution to the success of Operation Overlord - the codename for the D-Day landings - on Thursday June 6.

Members will light the site beacon at 9.15pm at the Skelmorlie Secret Bunker.

A piper from the 1st Largs Boys Brigade will play tunes from the film ‘The Longest Day’, which were originally performed by Bill Millin, who was Lord Lovat's personal piper as the commandos stormed the Normandy beaches.

The site will be open from 7pm, with a D-Day display and some free competitions, including aircraft recognition and target shooting.

The Boys Brigade piper will perform at 9pm with a speech at 9.10pm before the beacon lighting. The event is due to conclude 10.30pm. Any donations will be passed to armed forces charities.
