The Star Legend cruise liner was the latest visitor to the Firth of Clyde this evening, and was the location of a famous movie from the 1990s.

Sandra Bullock starred in the sequel to Speed on board the vessel which was then known as Seabourn Legend.

The movie was entitled Speed 2: Cruise Control, but Sandra Bullock herself believes the film is more infamous than famous after an interview in 2022 in which she claimed she was embarrassed to feature in the movie as 'it made no sense'.

Despite negative reviews, the film, which came out in 1997, hit number one in the US box office in its first week of release.

Eddie Williams of the Largs and Millport News Camera Club managed to capture a photo of the 32 year old vessel as it passed between Cumbrae and Bute.

The vessel also provided some good economic spin-offs.

Susan Fraser Malcolm of Nardini at the Moorings said: "We had lots of cyclists in at Nardini at the Moorings on Sunday morning who were cycling back to Greenock to catch the ship "

The vessel was en route to the port of Holyhead, and arrived there at 5am, on June 10,and is currently sailing under the flag of Bahamas. She was berthed at Greenock Ocean Terminal yesterday.

Star Legend is described as having plenty to offer while still being small enough to tuck into smaller harbours and hidden coves that others can’t reach.

It boasts new public areas, including two new dining venues, a new spa, elevated pool, and fitness area. The yacht also has all new bathrooms in every suite.

The ship was built in Germany and had the title Royal Viking Queen between 1992 and 1995.

Star Legend (formerly Royal Viking Queen, Queen Odyssey and Seabourn Legend) is was built by Schichau-Seebeckwerft in Bremerhaven, Germany and is operated by Windstar Cruises.
