In this week's delve into the archives, we focus on various businesses in the town over years gone by, some of which are no longer with us, and others which are very much mainstays in the area.

The Rowe Sports shop in Largs Main Street (above) was the only sports shop in the town and ran until around 2005.

Allan McIntyre (back) of Rowe Sports was pictured presenting footballs to Barry Thomson of Largs Colts, Eric Wither of Largs Thistle FC, and Neil McIntyre (Allan's brother) from the Largs Boys' Brigade.

And this archive photo of Largs Main Street comes from the early 1980s. Taken by the then News photographer Grahame Ross, it shows Templetons, Glens Rentals, and The Jubilee Bar in the background.

Former Largs Town Council Provost Dan Doris (below), who had his own hairdressing salon in the town, is pictured far left, enjoying a drink at the Mackerston Hotel at a special presentation.

A common theme in the 1980s was the darts competitions in various pubs throughout the district.

The picture below was taken at the Village Inn and Mudhook in Fairlie, which looked very different in the 1980s to today.

The Royal Navy frigate HMS Ambuscade had docked at Fairlie, and its crew threw out a challenge to the local darts league for a game.

Leading seaman Ken Merride is pictured handing over the ship's plaque to Willie Crawford.
