Largs Green Futures group have set up a new memorial bench at Barrfields in memory of two Thistle legends, Derek Scott and Pat Rall.

The environmental group have been busy growing community links and spruced up a number of neglected areas of the town.

And their latest project at Barrfields Stadium is going from strength to strength and will soon be helping provide fresh produce for the town's foodbank and the community meals projects at The Church of The Nazarene.

Volunteers Alison Foran and Wendy Low Thomson have renovated a bench from North Ayrshire Council, and had a lplaque installed and two lovely planters in memory of former Largs Thistle secretary Derek Scott and long serving committee man and volunteer Pat Rall, within Barrfields Stadium.

Wendy, who heads the Largs Green Futures group, said: "Both men are missed so much by everyone at Barrfields.

"These two men had volunteered at Barrfields Stadium for many years and did so much work keeping the community club alive, so we thought it would be very fitting. and we hope everyone enjoys visiting."

The fresh produce area is being grown at the Vikingar! side of the ground where a community garden is being set up. It includes an inside growing space, which was built by the American visitors from The Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene, South Carolina last month.

Pat had been a devotee of the Barrfields club since he was a child and one of the early matches he attended was in 1953, which saw Thistle's highest ever attendance of 6,500.

His love for the club grew over the years and he became a dedicated volunteer, a role he started more than 50 years ago.

Pat, who served as the club's kit man, had a colourful personality and he was well known at football grounds across the west of Scotland for his witty banter.

Derek Scott tragically passed away after suffering a heart attack a few days before Christmas in 2022,

The devoted family man's passion for football was well known throughout the town from Largs Colts to Largs Thistle, and his dedication and warm personality is also greatly missed by everyone.

Locals are encouraged to come to Barrfields for the Pat Rall memorial tournament on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, featuring Greenock Juniors, Port Glasgow,  Largs and another team still to be confirmed.

Entry will be by donation, to a charity partner yet to be confirmed. Matches will be played at 11am and 2.30pm and the cup draw is coming soon.

It is the second Derek Scott Memorial Tournament match, which will see Largs travel to Kilbirnie Ladeside on July 13 for a 2pm kick-off.
