Members of the Largs Rock Choir are getting ready for summer and are finishing their term in style with a performance that will help to raise money for the Scottish Women’s Aid Charity today.

The performance of feel good upbeat songs will take place on Monday June 24 at 1pm and will last an hour, held at the Dunn Menmorial Hall at St. John’s Church.

Jennifer Scouller, who is originally from Skelmorlie, leads the choir and has done since she started the choir 11 years ago.

She said: ‘The choir continues to grow from strength to strength and it’s so wonderful to have so many loyal members that stay with the choir year after year.

"The choir meets weekly on Mondays during term time and the members that come along find that they not only feel fantastic after singing at rehearsals but they make friends along the way too.

"Anyone who loves to sing is welcome to join in for the summer performance in the community which is open to everyone, not just friends and family from the choir.

"It’s not ticketed, we are simply asking for a donation at the door and the bonus is that we are offering refreshments for the audience too!”

The choir hosted a similar event this time last year and raised £900 for Cancer Research. Jennifer said, "Sadly one of our lovely members passed away suddenly earlier in the year and this was the charity nominated by her family. It was an emotional performance but it was so nice to be able to do something positive through our singing."

It’s been a busy time for the choir who have been involved in a number of performances recently including singing at the Kelvingrove Bandstand, the SEC, Race For Life event in Glasgow.

Rock Choir will be taking a break during the summer holidays and will be starting a new term on Monday 16th September rehearsing in the Dunn Memorial Hall.
