The organisers of a new community larder on Cumbrae have revealed when they hope to open their doors to customers.

Volunteers want to provide a way to help people living on the island who are struggling as the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit households hard all over the country.

Premises have been identified at Garrison House, and a team of locals have come forward to run the service.

But alongside the reveal of an opening date, the team behind the project has also issued an appeal for help.

They're keen to hear from anyone who has a chest freezer that they no longer need and that they'd be willing to donate to the project to help store frozen food items.

The Cumbrae scheme follows the successful launch of the Largs Community Larder at Largs Library in February.

The Millport team say they hope to open the doors of the new Millport Comunity Shop in mid-July.

The project's aim, like that of its counterpart in Largs, is to provide dignified and affordable access to food for those who are struggling to make ends meet.

The set-up works on a membership basis, and the larder provides a way for locals who are struggling to make ends meet to top up their weekly shop, with their own choice of foods available.

A shop spokesperson said: "We are still setting up the premises and awaiting the shelving units being delivered .

"We have received our display fridge and freezer but we would really love to have a chest freezer, so we can have more frozen stock available for you all.

"So, if you know of anyone who can donate a new chest freezer, or has one that they would be willing to donate to us for the community shop, please get in touch at the 'Millport Community Shop' Facebook page."
