LARGS Academy is saying a fond farewell to two long-serving teachers who will retire when the school year draws to a close this week.

Alan Leishman and Martin Beattie were among the teachers who helped oversee the school's transition from its former home in Flatt Road to the new Largs Campus in Alexander Avenue in 2017-18.

But their teaching careers in Largs go back much further than that, with the pair boasting a combined total of more than 50 years of service in the Academy's classrooms.

And the duo have been praised for their long service by the school this week.

A Largs Academy spokesperson said: "Today we celebrated the careers of two Largs Academy legends, Mr Leishman and Mr Beattie, who have given over 50 years of service combined to our school and pupils.

"We wish them all the very best in a long and happy retirement."

Mr Leishman has taught chemistry at the school since 2002, while Mr Beattie, a technology teacher and faculty leader in the tech department, began teaching at the Academy in 1996.
