The Largs Viking Festival team has paid tribute to a popular Viking re-enactor who was a regular participant in the annual event in the town.

The death of Adrian Fallows, known by his Viking alter ego of 'Jarl Thorfinn', was announced on social media on July 4.

A spokesperson for the Largs Viking Festival said in a social media post: "We are very sad to hear the passing of a wonderful friend and re-enactor, Adrian Fallows, aka Jarl Thorfinn.

"He took part in the Largs Viking village for many years, and you might have seen him at the kitchen area.

"He was a gentleman and a wealth of knowledge. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends."

Mr Fallows' death was announced by the 'Swords of Dalriada' historical and battle re-enactment group.

He took part in festivals across the west of Scotland, including the Lochgilphead Celtic and Pictish Festival, for whom a spokesperson described Mr Fallows as "a patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable gentleman".

On the Largs Viking Festival's Facebook page, one member of the public described Mr Fallows as "a lovely, friendly man", while another wished him "a safe journey into the afterlife" and said "it was a privilege and a pleasure" to have known him.
