Tickets are now available for a popular feature of the annual Viking Festival in Largs.
The Haakon Haakonsson Lecture has a long history in the town, dating back to the inaugural festival in 1980, when BBC Mastermind presenter and noted historian Magnus Magnusson, the original patron of the Viking Festival, gave the very first lecture.
It was missing from the programme for the 2023 event, but will make a welcome return during this year's festival in early September.
A spokesperson for the Viking Festival said: "We are pleased to announce that the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland are sponsoring the Haakon Haakonsson Lecture to be held at Vikingar!, on Thursday September 5 at 7pm.
The guest lecturer is Professor Stephen Driscoll of the University of Glasgow, who will give a lecture on the Govan Stones Project from the ninth century, linking the Scots, Pictish, Norse and the Kingdom of Strathclyde.
