The Largs Viking Festival organisers have announced that two spectacular re-enactment groups have been signed up to take part in this year's event.

The Fingal Living History Society will appear at the Viking Village during this year's Norse extravanganza.

The popular festival, which has been ranked in The Guardian's top 20 festivals in Europe is gearing up for another spectacular nine days, starting on August 31.

Fingal Living History is described as "a passionate and diverse re-enactment group" specialising in the Viking era and in the Norman invasion of Ireland.

With 25 years of experience, they bring history to life for the public by participating in historical events throughout Europe.

The goal is to educate and showcase how our ancestors lived and fought.

Their shield colours are yellow and black, and their banner is a black raven on a yellow field.

The Scottish side aiming to keep the Viking invaders under control will be represented by the Society of John De Graeme.

The group was founded in 2016 to promote the life and deeds of Sir John De Graeme, a close friend of William Wallace, and his pivotal role in Wallace's life and that of Scotland

The society eagerly supports Scotland's history and culture from all periods as they create an interlinking tapestry that makes up what Scotland is today.

The two re-enactment groups will be based at the newly extended Viking Village.

Festival favourites such include the opening parade and ceremony, live entertainment, fringe events, a food and craft market, workshops, a full Viking and Scots village, a Viking longboat, and the ever popular Festival of Fire, with fire procession.

As well as the Viking skirmish, the final day of the festival will include the burning of the longboat, entertainment, and a fabulous firework display to bring the event to a close.

Tickets for the extended Viking village this year will also be valid for an arena where a host of events, demonstrations, games, activities and skirmishes will take place.

The village will also host Regan's Reivers, who will be offering have-a-go axe throwing on the first weekend of the festival
